I’m delighted to be one of 29 artsits taking part in a special exhibition in An Tain Arts Centre, Dundalk, which is now open and runs until 14 March.
The exhibition was devised to honour one of Louth Craftmark’s members, the wonderful Patricia Murphy, who passed away in 2018. Patricia was a prodigious and inspiring visual artist. She worked in many different mediums but her work is immediately recognisable, by its bright colours and flowing abstraction. She was fascinated by colour, by light, by nature, by science, by what we see and how we see it.
The members of Louth Craftmark were invited to create works that respond to the work of Patricia. I only know I felt her use of strong colours to be inspiring and courageous. She was unafraid and unapologetic in her work. So in response, I created ‘Reaching for Clarity.’ From the wooden base, the eye, and perhaps the soul, has to travel through every colour (or is that every experience) in the hopes of reaching some degree of enlightenment or clarity of thought or emotion. No path is straight. No decision easy. And clarity may not be all we’d hoped for. Perhaps it’s the journey itself that is worthwhile and enjoyable.
My work is among many strong, colourful, uplifting, engaging works in a variety of mediums. They sit alongside a selection of Patricia’s own work.
Treat yourself to a walk around An Tain’s Basement Gallery in Dundalk. You won’t be disappointed.
